Given the preliminary nature of the project in its present state the predicted figures, although approxiamte, have been thoroughly researched and are, therefore, reliable. Furthermore, a hefty 10% has been added to allow for unforseen eventualities:

These costs represent a parameter of primary importance as regards the choice of a system of closure in that what they pay for is durable and requires low yearly expense. With the system under consideration here, it is possible to confirm that maintenance operations will be extremely simple and will concern, almost exclusively, the moving parts of the barriers (the "gate-ships"). The removal of these, during the long non-operational period of the year will allow maintenance work to be carried out in an appropriate ship-yard with the ease and savings that this will afford. The approximation of these costs (maximum estimation) given below covers all three entrances.

Costs of maintenance
6-8 Billion Lira per annum
Running Costs
3,5-5 Billion Lira per annum
